Other Stimulus

We first started to talk about the book "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and thought we could use it as our stimulus. The book has a major theme of being trapped and stuck somewhere. This related back to our site. We discussed how we thought we could use this book to inform our piece but after being in our site we realised that our original idea did not use the site fully.

After looking back at our site and rediscovering it we came up with the theme of forgotten memories and how people shove old memories and junk in their loft. We discussed it and realised we could make the piece really personal by each being involved in the development of at least one scene. So we researched old memories from our past or from our parents' past. Using these memories we could then start to develop and create our piece.

Research

When we first went into our site we noticed how many hidden spaces there were. This lead to us thinking about being hidden, hiding something away or being forced to stay there. We felt we could use this theme when we devise our piece, and that it had a lot of possibilities we could explore.

Another thing we noticed was the amount of dust there was. Usually this wouldn't matter but as it is Site Specific we felt that this was a very important thing to consider. As the dust was covering everything it almost felt as if it was hiding things. We felt this linked to forgotten memories. The beams also split the loft into four sections, the four sections reminded us of four houses on a lane.
